lightness

→ lightness()

Reads how close a colour is to white — the L of HSL.

lightness(colour)

The name is left as it stands because no written Setswana word for this idea exists. That makes it and phatsimo (brightness) an uneven pair — one translated, one not — and that is deliberate: phatsimo has a source, lightness has none, and Bopa does not invent names.

The unevenness has one benefit: phatsimo and lightness are not the same thing, and because the two names look nothing alike they are hard to confuse.

lightness reads how close a colour is to white. 0 is black, 100 is white, and 50 is a pure colour. It honours seeloSaMmala.
