ITHALIKI

→ ITALIC

The text style that slants the letters.

ITHALIKI

You hand it to mokgwaWaMokwalo. Slanted type is used for book titles, for words from another language, and where you want to mark a word without making it heavy.

ithaliki is a loanword, from English italic, which itself comes from Italy where the letterform began. It is written in Setswana as ithaliki, and ga se ithaliki for type that is not slanted. This is the ordinary loanword case: a borrowed technology with a borrowed word already in use.
