OVERLAY
→ OVERLAYA mode that darkens the dark parts of the canvas and lightens the light ones.
OVERLAYOVERLAY combines ATISA and SCREEN in one mode. What decides which is the colour already on the canvas: where it is dark, that part goes darker; where it is light, it is lightened.
Measured: (100, 150, 200) over (200, 100, 50) gives (188, 118, 79).
HARD_LIGHT is the same mode the other way round: where OVERLAY listens to the canvas, HARD_LIGHT listens to the new colour.
The name stays English. Setswana has no word for overlay in any source consulted. The one term that exists, tsenyoditshwantsho, is a picture laid over another on a page, not the arithmetic being done here.
