exp

→ exp()

Raises the number e (2.71828…) to the power you give.

exp(maemo)

exp(1) is 2.718281828…, the number called e. exp(0) is 1. exp(2) is e × e.

e is the number that turns up wherever things grow or fade at a rate that depends on their own size — heat leaving a room, a population rising. Where pow grows by a power you set, exp is growth as it happens in nature.

log is exp turned around: log(exp(3)) is 3.

The name is left as it stands. exp is short for “exponential”, notation that is not translated in Botswana teaching materials.
